Crystal has been with Lincoln Financial Group since January 2007 and joined the New Business Learning & Quality team in November 2016 as a Training Associate. During this time, Crystal has served on various committees including the Employees Activities Committee (EAC), African-American Business Resource Group(AABRG) and the Women’s Leadership Group(WLG). In her current role as a Training Associate, Crystal plays an integral role in the on-boarding of new associates.

Doing good is paramount to NABA member Leah Brown. The community of Jacksonville is taking note of Brown’s pioneering ways. She was honored by the Women’s Center of Jacksonville with an “Unsung Sheroes” award at the Center’s recent Women, Words & Wisdom event.  “Our vision and mission are ‘lifting as we climb,’” she said. “I’m most proud of the mentorship program we started last year between professional members of our chapter and students at UNF. When NABA Lifetime Member Ken Bouyer looked around his starting class of 130 at Ernst & Young in 1990, he noticed only four other faces resembling his, filling him with doubt about whether he’d made the right decision and could succeed at such a place.  

Without knowledge of any professional organizations catering to them, the five would sneak off to Houlihan’s restaurant once a month for the camaraderie it offered. “We left at different times because we didn’t want people at the firm to think we were trying to take over,” Bouyer quipped. “I started learning a lot from people who looked like me.” 

These days, he told student members of NABA from FIU, UM and FAU, such camaraderie is easy to find, thanks to the now-robust organization. READ MORE

“No matter how rich, wealthy, or accustomed you may be, if I can’t hold a conversation with you, I can’t see myself working under you,” Eastern Michigan student Xavier Cheatum said.  Cheatum is a marketing major and is in his third year at EMU. He is a member of the National Association of Black Accountants and has helped with several events at the College of Business. NABA is proud to congratulate Kim Griffin-Hunter on her promotion to Managing Partner of the Deloitte Southern Florida market. Kim is a Lifetime Member and Past National Chairman of the Board. Kim oversees more than 600 Deloitte professionals delivering services in audit and assurance, consulting, tax, and risk and advisory. She will drive the organization’s national strategy for growth, client service, corporate citizenship and inclusion in South Florida. Under the air of the Harlem Renaissance, the Plattsburgh State chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants will showcase entrepreneurship at its fourth annual banquet tomorrow night in the Warren Ballrooms of the Angell College Center.  Senior hospitality management major and President of NABA Cheyene Richards said the club celebrates its peers every year with a banquet at the end of each academic year. Richards and the e-board chose the Harlem Renaissance theme to reflect entrepreneurship and the economic boom for the black community during that time.  READ MORE

Ebony Wyatt, director of sales at General Mills, emceed the event. Wyatt, a Walton College alumna, shared her own memories of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The National Association of Black Accountants invited PSUC students to talk about the phenomenon of imposter syndrome with guest speaker Tony Rice II in the Center for Equality, Equity and Inclusion.  Imposter syndrome is the phenomenon where individuals constantly doubt their accomplishments despite their success, and are afraid of being viewed as a fraud in their achievements. 

This phenomenon has been known to especially affect people of color because of the disconnect and inequality that still exists in the workplace today.  READ MORE

Kathy Waller to Retire as CFO of Coca-Cola

Kathy Waller, who began her career at Coca-Cola in 1987 as a senior accountant, will retire as the brand's executive vice president and CFO. Her appointment to CFO in 2014 made Waller the first black and the first female CFO of a Fortune 100 company.  A member of NABA Atlanta, she was the founding chair of Coca-Cola's Women's Leadership Council and supported the creation, roll-out and execution of the company's Women in Leadership Global Program.

Fort Valley State University, February 2, 2019
Fort Valley State University senior Devonté West had no idea his summer internship would turn out to be a lucrative and a deciding factor in where his career would lead. The captain of the Wildcat football team and an accounting major, West graduated in December 2018. His career has already received a jumpstart. West accepted an offer to work with RSM Global, a world-leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services for middle market companies, based in Tampa, Florida, after graduation. He connected with the company at a National Association of Black Accountants conference he attended with FVSU students. Though he was a bit intimidated at first, he soon found no need. His FVSU education had more than prepared him to land a prestigious internship. READ MORE  
URI Today, January 3, 2019
The NABA URI chapter, part of the association’s Boston Metropolitan Chapter, has enhanced its prominence through its success in the Annual Minority Business Conference’s case competition in Boston. Since the URI group was formed in 2013, it has placed at least one team of students in the top three each year, competing against such schools as Bentley, Babson, Brandeis and Boston University. Because of its accomplishments, URI is being considered for the honor of becoming the first Rhode Island chapter. READ MORE  
Survey Shows Mixed Results for African-American Accountants Despite a Big Effort to Increase Opportunities​

FMPA announced the promotion of Linda S. Howard to Chief Financial Officer, filling the position after the passing earlier this year of the power agency’s previous CFO, Mark J. As a NABA leader, Herschel has helped organize multiple student conferences. At the 2018 NABA Convention, Herschel was presented with the Frank Ross National Outstanding Member of the Year award, which recognizes someone who is exceptionally dedicated to NABA’s goal of elevating black accounting and finance professionals. Christopher Feazell One of Ten Seniors Named to Ole Miss Hall of Fame

An accountancy major, Christopher is one of ten University of Mississippi seniors that have been inducted into the university's 2017-2018 Hall of Fame, one of the highest honors afforded a student. Christopher is a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. He served in several roles over the course of his education, including vice president of programming for the National Association of Black Accountants, vice president of the Black Student Union.  Christopher plans to pursue a master’s degree in taxation in the university’s Patterson School of Accountancy. NABA Twin Cities Celebrates Local Millennials During Black History Month

NABA Twin Cities hosted their 3rd annual Black History Month celebration to acknowledge and celebrate the journey of Black people in America. The event hosted nearly 100 attendees who came to support and share in the experience.  There were explosive sessions of spoken word pieces, musical performances and engaging dialogue around issues surrounding the Black community.  READ MORE

NABA Student Chapter Leads 'Operation Get Home' Initiative with Local Sheriff's Office and 'Divine 9'
Bethune-Cookman University NABA Student Chapter, February 2018
Bethune-Cookman University's NABA Chapter partnered with the Volusia County Sheriff and members of the 'Divine 9' to educate and inform B-CU’s campus on how to react if someone were to open fire on campus. The event had over 80 student participants, as well as a demonstration of how to physically defend against an active shooter. Additionally, the sheriff’s department has agreed to a continuation of an “Operation Get Home” series. VIEW IMAGES

NABA Tampa member Laphil Bowles was recently named Chair of the Hillsborough County Academy of Finance (AOF).  The AOF program is designed to motivate students to complete a business-oriented high school curriculum and to pursue higher education. Prior to attending PSUC, Shiyiheeim Nartey-Tokoli attended a film high school. During that time, he participated in a theater camp, was a part of a Broadway show and was heavily interested in the film industry.  As a resident assistant of Moffitt Hall, former artistic director of Night of Nations, the vice president of club K.I.N.K.S. and co-chair of event planning for the NABA student chapter, the double major in accounting and finance is always busy.  READ MORE

Gene Padgett and Carmen Herrera of the National Sales Network started out with four organizations and has blossomed to over twenty in the past eight years.  They formed the Black Professional Alliance (BPA).  The BPA will present the 8th Annual Holiday Social and Toy Drive.  Literally thousands of children have recieved toys as a result of the efforts of this conglomerate of professional black association and organizations. Only All-Black and All Women Team - NABA Houston Student Chapter - Places High at KPMG International Case Study Competion

KPMG held the university round of their international case study competition and our student chapter had a group of women comprised of both officers and members compete. These ladies made it to the final round and ended up taking 2nd place. Unfortunately, the regional round will only be taking the #1 team. This was a huge accomplishment for the NABA team as they were the only all-black and all women team out of approximately 20 competing teams. View Team
